Stuart Charity is a passionate, well-respected industry leader, having served the automotive industry in various roles across a distinguished career. Stuart is CEO of the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), which represents 4,100member businesses and the entire automotive aftermarket, an industry that contributes $25B annually to the economy.

Stuart’s previous career experience has enhanced his knowledge and market understanding, allowing him to make informed strategic decisions and offer respected insights. Before his time at AAAA, Stuart served as the Executive Director of the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia (SAE-A). Earlier, as the Automotive Industry Specialist with Austrade, Stuart successfully assisted automotive component manufacturers in developing new export markets.

Adam has been involved in the Automotive Industry for over 30 years. He started his career at a small independent operator in the UK as an apprentice technician, and soon after moved into store management within Kwik-Fit; a tyre replacement, car servicing and repair company with over 650 service centres across the UK. His career developed rapidly seeing him take on several increasingly senior operational roles and in 2004, after ten years with Kwik-Fit, he made the decision to relocate to Australia.

Adam joined the Kmart Tyre & Auto Service (KTAS) team as a store manager in 2005. Since then he has stepped through senior leadership roles within the organisation, finally being appointed Managing Director in 2013.

Adam oversaw the successful acquisition of KTAS by Continental AG in late 2018. The business rebranded to mycar in mid 2019.

mycar currently consists of more than 275 stores across Australia, operating out of every state and territory. This includes 30 electric vehicle (EV) ready stores. With over 1300 team members nationwide, mycar is one of the largest employers in the automotive service and repair industry, and the largest single employer of apprentice technicians in Australia. mycar prides itself on its Career Pathway and the ability to offer team members the opportunity to advance their career from technical to management and leadership roles. Since 2016, almost all operational leadership roles have been promotions from within the business.

mycar’s vision is to be the team of auto experts famous for customer care. Its core business is tyre replacement, vehicle servicing and general repairs. With its focus on People First and Care Beyond the Car, mycar is committed to setting new standards of service excellence for the industry.

Adam joined the AAAA National Council in 2014. Rob Cameron is the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of GPC Asia Pacific. GPC Asia Pacific is the largest automotive aftermarket and industrial parts supplier in Australia and New Zealand with annually revenue of over $3.7B.

Rob has been involved in the Automotive Aftermarket since 1992 having commenced his career with ABW Tools before moving to Stanley when they acquired ABW. In 2003, Rob joined GPC Asia Pacific as the CFO for Ashdown-Ingram and became the Executive General Manager of that business in 2007. In January 2017, Rob was appointed the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer for GPC Asia Pacific.

Rob has Bachelor degrees in IT and Commerce from Griffith University as well as extensive executive education from Wharton, Monash University, China-European International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai and IESE in Spain. Recently Rob completed a course in Artificial Intelligence and business strategy from M.I.T.

Benjamin joined Super Retail Group in July 2019 as Managing Director – Supercheap Auto. Benjamin holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) from the University of Newcastle and is an experienced retail executive with 25 years in senior management roles across Australia, UK, US and Europe, including two decades with international supermarket giant ALDI.

Growing up, she helped her dad with mechanical work on his truck, which is where her passion for vehicles began. During her apprenticeship, she won awards for her passion for her work, earning her widespread recognition within the industry as a dedicated apprentice, and now, fully qualified technician.

Chelsea Lawson is a qualified light vehicle mechanic in Brisbane’s North. She began her apprenticeship in 2017 through a school based apprenticeship. She worked in dealerships for the first few years of her apprenticeship but found the environment difficult to thrive in.
After trialing university for a while, she then went back to the automotive industry, finding an independent workshop where she has had the support to succeed and go on to win multiple awards.

As well as spending her days working on all makes and models of cars, she is a keen advocate for women in trades and expanding the reach of the automotive industry.

Michael Carnemolla is a qualified vehicle technician with 28 years of experience in the automotive industry.

In 2013, he started his own business at 313 Automotive, in a brand-new purpose-built workshop in Russell Lea. The business has grown during this time, now employing 8 full time staff.

Michael has extended his mechanical experience to include: advanced diagnostics in hybrid vehicles, automotive electrical and marine mechanical. He is committed to keeping abreast of vehicle technology advancements, such as EFI diagnostics and hybrid vehicles.

As evidence of his commitment to investment in sustainable practices, Michael is proud that his workshop is MTA Green Stamp carbon footprint neutral accredited and has won awards for sustainability including the Canada Bay Council Sustainability Award (2018) and the Canada Bay Council overall “Environmental Business Award” in 2021.

Jeff has toured widely throughout Australia and New Zealand delivering technical workshops and training sessions, and as a result of a co-branded business training project, has concentrated on helping workshop operators manage their businesses more effectively and profitably.

As a director with the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), MTAQ Committee member and owner of two workshops – Highfield Mechanical and Hi-Mech Auto Solutions Craig has a broad understanding of the automotive industry and the challenges and opportunities facing the aftermarket.

From workshop management, developing key customer relationships and aftermarket support, Craig has a track record of success implementing processes that improve efficiency, reduce costs and ultimately increase revenues in line with company objectives.

Craig has a deep desire to leave the automotive industry in a better place than when he started, and help other automotive aftermarket workshops survive and grow in a rapidly changing industry and enjoys sharing his knowledge at industry events across the country.

Apart from regular training events, Geoff works one-on-one with auto mechanical workshop owners, helping them implement better and more profitable business practices and regain full control of their business.

In 2016 Geoff became a Director of TaT and was appointed the General Manager.

Lesley Yates is Director of Government Relations and Advocacy for the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association. Lesley manages AAAA advocacy campaigns, designing creative and innovative solutions to address the greatest challenges facing our industry and then lobbying and encouraging government to make the right decisions to support our industry.


In 2021, after a decade of AAAA campaigning for fair and open competition, the new motor vehicle repair law was passed in Australian Parliament. This legislation is the result of a tireless and persistent grassroots campaign by the AAAA. Lesley is now tackling our ongoing substantial industry challenges, including the workforce shortage crisis and government vehicle modification regulations.

Aileen Hayes is the Chief People Officer at GPC Asia Pacific the largest automotive aftermarket and industrial parts supplier in Australia and New Zealand.

Aileen has been in the Automotive Industry for over 15 years.  Prior to joining GPC,  Aileen spent several years in HR and Operations roles with the Home Depot North America.  She started her career in the aviation sector with Airways Air Traffic control New Zealand before holding various HR Manager and Strategy consulting roles in the United Kingdom.

As Chief People Officer, Aileen is responsible setting and overseeing the execution of the business’s overall people strategy harnessing her passion for attracting and retaining incredible talent and developing a highly capable, customer centric and engaged team.  Promoting our industry to attract the next generation of aftermarket talent is a passion and crucial focus.
