This session is a great introduction to Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) service and repair including vehicle powertain operation overviews, safety considerations and required workplace tools and equipment.

• Identifying hazards and controlling risks
• Workplace tools and equipment requirements
• HEV classifications and configurations
• Overview of the main components in HEV’s and BEV’s
• Depowering and re-initialising
• HEV and BEV battery types, battery consumption, and basic battery operational theory
• The basics of motor/generators
• Overview of EV interlock systems

Keith Minchin
With over 40 years automotive experience and over 20 years as a Ferrari and Maserati technician, Keith’s automotive experience and knowledge is second to only a few. Keith has a continuous learning mindset and has been at the forefront of cutting-edge developments in automotive performance, innovation and technology during his extensive career. Joining MTAQ in 2012 Keith brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position, holding qualifications in Light Vehicle Mechanic Technology, Automotive Electrical along with accreditations in Electric Vehicles. For the past few years Keith has been delivering EV training to fellow educators and the industry alike.

Nigel Palmer
Nigel Palmer is an automotive trainer who has over 30 years’ experience in the automotive trade.  Across his career, Nigel has worked in various roles and gained a wide technical skill set. Nigel entered the training sphere in 2001 with Ford Motor Company and today continues to share his knowledge through the MTA. Nigel’s electric vehicle service and repair interest began in in 2010 with Mitsubishi Motors and he continues to expand his knowledge every year. Nigel enjoys passing on these new generation EV skills to technicians across the country.
